A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a news article about some senior beauty queens who are staying fit with Zumba. I think that it is great that these beautiful women are promoting fitness for older people. The news article got me thinking about how our skin changes as we get older, and our beauty needs change. So, I’ll touch on some changes in my skin that I’ve observed, and how some of these issues could be tackled.
I noticed that my skin has gotten dryer as I’ve gotten older. I had extremely oily skin when I was in my teens and early 20s. Now, my skin has gotten progressively drier over time. Sometimes, I would describe it as being more balanced or normal. Other days, I’d say that I have dry skin. I find that I definitely need to use a good moisturizer every day on my skin. Even if you have oily skin, moisturizer can help balance the oiliness, and maybe keep your skin from producing excess oil. I prefer moisturizers with lighter textures, because even when my skin in dry, some moisturizers just feel too heavy on my skin.
I am beginning to see fine lines around my mouth. The lines are not obvious, but I laugh a lot, and I can see them. So, I have to be careful about which foundation products I choose. I have to make sure that the foundation doesn’t settle into those lines to make them appear too obvious. Therefore, I do opt for foundations that do not contain oil, but are creamy and do not dry my skin. These foundations tend to work better to hide those fine lines instead of magnifying them. I also have to make sure that the powders that I use to set my makeup doesn’t look too dry or caked on. I think that when my skin was oilier, I could get away with using nearly any powder that matched my complexion.
I’m much more conscience about using products with UV protection now. I wasn’t too concerned about UV protection in my younger years, especially since I do not have an extremely fair skin tone. I’ve totally changed my thoughts on that topic, and I seek out cosmetics with UV protection. I found that using products with sun protection helps to keep dark spots on my face from getting darker.
I think that exfoliation is now a must. When I exfoliate, my skin has a fresher, almost clearer look. I have found that my stress levels really show on my face, and exfoliation just helps me look fresher, even when I am stressed.
